Ep 21 - Omurice Recipe (Tampopo)

In episode twenty-one of the Film and Food Podcast Chris had the amazing Nguyên Lê as a guest to discuss the 1985 film Tampopo! I encourage you to check out this underrated film and give this episode a listen by clicking on the 'Podcast tab' to listen now!

This film is full to the brim with great food, so much so that both Chris and Nguyên both provided recipes! So that's TWO film-inspired recipes from this movie for you to try! This is Chris' recipe and he re-creates the omurice dish from the middle of the movie where the homeless chef and Tabo break into to make this very dish while avoiding the security guard. I've added some Aussie flare to this one, but it's flexible in how you want to make it!

Omurice Recipe:

Ingredients:

- 1 cup of white rice

- 3 eggs

- Hot Sauce of your choice (I used Billinudgel Smoked Hot Sauce)

Method:

1. Cook white rice by boiling for 15 minutes in a medium por full of water.

3. Crack eggs in bowl and swish with chopsticks until lightly beaten. Pour onto a hot pan with splash of olive oil, swishing for twenty seconds with chopsticks. Use your chopsticks to test the edges of the omelette and ensure its sticking together. Flip after a minute or two and fry until fully cooked.,
